worst place to live

I saw pictures of Lagos, Nigeria today. It was on a website that labeled it, 'Worst place to live on earth!' i was saddened by the fields of garbage as children frolicked in its danger. The green of its lush and fruit bearing palms had withered to a sullen brown. In place of the openness for children to explore its beauty were metal tanks for transport. Where are they all going and most importantly, what have they left behind?
It was like watching that movie where the world got so bad, humans had to escape to live in space. Is that what Lagosians are going to have to do? Moving to an entire other universe seems the only escape for that kind of tragedy.
I am sad for this place I once called home. I am sad that my children may never know the beauty I saw in it when I too was just a wee one frolicking in its beautiful danger.
